      Description

For some taxa GBIF has a genus as a synonym of a species, e.g. http://www.gbif.org/species/7860029 This is not possible. In the example given it looks like a provisional species name "Lutzomyia a" see source http://www.gbif.org/species/107016750 This gets parsed as a genus name Lutzomyia, hence a genus is synonymised with a species. Again, informal species are edge cases, but perhaps an automated test for genus rank name = species rank name could catch these.

THis is clearly a bug. It should have been tested that a species in the backbone actually has an epithet which does not seem true in this case (it is considered to be a species in the nub as you can see by its rank).
