Description: I'm trying to track down how USGS Bison has Oxyrhopus occipitalis (a Brazilian snake) in Rocky Mountain National Park.  The Bison records allegedly came from gbif, and are based on specimens at the Snow Entomological Museum.  The collections database at Snow shows Oxyporus occipitalis, a beetle, for those specimen records, which makes a lot more sense for both and Entomological Museum and for the North American locations.
As of today, if I hit the gbif API or use the www.gbif.org/occurrence/search? portal, I get only 13 reasonable records for Oxyrhopus occipitalis in South America, but I can't get any records for Oxyporus occipitalis when I use that name.  If I start filtering by Snow Museum, then add Scientific Name as Oxyporus occipitalis, I get the attached message.  It does not show me more than one scientific name, and it somehow links the valid name (valid in terms of the Snow Museum having specimens, both the snake and the beetle are taxonomically accepted) to the snake name.
Could you please explain to me what is going on?  I am in contact with Stinger Guala of Bison and James Beach of KU Biodiversity, but this looks like an important hint from gbif.  Even if you can tell me that the problem is upstream (e.g., someone's ITIS name filtering), that would be very helpful.

Comment: Responded to via helpdesk (Case 2266). Issue related to http://dev.gbif.org/issues/browse/POR-2469, which was fixed with a taxon processing correction deployed in April (also see http://gbif.blogspot.de/2015/03/improving-gbif-backbone-matching.html)
