Description: _Tetracerus_ is a small mammal from India and Nepal, but GBIF has it occurring in Burma and Brazil! It's an animal that's just been highlighted in a paper in the GBIF Mendeley feed https://www.mendeley.com/research/predicting-potential-distribution-poorly-known-species-small-database-case-fourhorned-antelope-tetra/

The Burmese occurrence is possibly a misidentification.

The Brazilian occurrences http://www.gbif.org/occurrence/search?taxon_key=2441198&dataset_key=e5080aa7-f479-41f0-bb89-278feafd3cda are odd as they are all credited to a thesis on mites from palms:

"Navia Magalhães Ferreira, D. 2004. Ácaros Eriophyoidea (Prostigmata) associados a palmeiras (Arecaceae), com ênfase no ácaro do coqueiro, Aceria guerreronis Keifer, espectro de hospedeiros e aspectos biogeográficos. Tese-doutorado, ESALQ/USP- Piracicaba - São Paulo. 435p."

The thesis http://www.teses.usp.br/teses/disponiveis/11/11146/tde-02072004-142301/pt-br.php doesn't mention _Tetracerus_.

Looking at this occurrence http://www.gbif.org/occurrence/1143312056 the CATALOG NUMBER is 8147 which enables us to find the original record http://sinbiota.biota.org.br/occurrence/8147/ which lists a number of taxa that aren't mites.

Possibly there's been some text mining and over aggressive fuzzy matching by the data provider? For example, the record mentions "Notoseris sp." which isn't in the thesis, but Notostrix is.

In any event, these Brazilian records are hopelessly wrong and make GBIF's data for this mammal look a bit ridiculous.]]>
