Description: Based on the established service definitions, pilot repositories are set up by identified partners [specify a number?]. These repositories allow data owners to upload zipped data archives, communicate with the GBIF registry to ensure indexing of the datasets, and are based on a long-term commitment of the partner to ensure online availability of the datasets.

*Rationale*
Pilots will serve to test and demonstrate how to implement the criteria for establishing long-term, persistent data repositories. In selecting appropriate pilot sites, it is important to work with GBIF Participants, as the establishment of repositories is to be considered part of the future implementation and operation of BIFs.

- service agreement (commitment of the service provider)
- decision on tool(s) to be used as the repository (IPT; others?)
- communication: call for and selecting of appropriate pilot partners
- IPT: changes necessary?
