Issue 16218

Compile a list of tools/sites using GBIF API

16218
Reporter: atalavan
Assignee: bko
Type: Task
Summary: Compile a list of tools/sites using GBIF API
Description: We have never actively compiled a list of the websites and tools that use the GBIF webservices (WS) / API. Having one would be useful (e.g. to check if GBIF’s and GBIF publishers’ rights are respected) but it can also be a nice selling point. Some tools in the IMS are already tagged (http://www-old.gbif.org/orc/?sword=&keyword=119&language=&resourcetype=&search_all=1&sortby=&advanced_search=1&l=en&searchresult_page=1) as using the WS. There’s a mailing list for users of the API managed by the informatics team. The publishing of the 1.0 API could be a good reason to consult with the community about this.

Not sure if this should be implemented as web service. This perhaps should be considered as part of the resource content analysis but the new resource section should already meet the URL requirement at that time. But I may not understand all rationale behind this so just my thoughts.

I am organising Jira issues to the new epic to work on and am bringing this to the attention of [~trobertson@gbif.org]. But I don't think this should be included in the epic although the URL will be implemented.

Comment: I'd suggest just tagging anything we find that uses it Burke - the taxonomy presented by KC supports that. There is no web service needed.
