Description: Has been seen and hatching in an area south of the Svedish lake Vänern.
In the county of Vara the Bombus veteranus was observed in a private garden in a farmer district. The specific circumstances at the scene was in a overgrown plantation with sandy soil. After having removed unwanted grass and other wild growing plants, we discovered a bumblebee, only grey in appearance, came and went to a certain point in this cleaned area of the plantation. We (my wife and I) found an entrance to a small hole in the sandy ground where this strange bumble bee continuously returned.

Unfortunately we planted a rose at that spot, totally forgetting about this bumblebee, resulting in that we discovered a frenetic activity from this bumblebee to find where its nest. Later on I checked what I saw with the Internet and found out this was a Bombus veteranus (Sandhumle)...

I really feel LOUSY; I should looked out more carefully and preserved this specie... ]]>
