Description: The occurrence counts on the gbif home page

are not in accord with the occurrence counts when entering the Occurrence search interface

http://www.gbif.org/occurrence/search

This isn't particularly a problem, but I noticed it when making a presentation with two consecutive slides of those pages.

This happens because we had to do this iteration of the site with a separate metrics service which can drift over time (bugs, messages dropped on the message bus, multiple delivery of messages, differing cache times etc).  Ever week or 2 we rebuild the metrics to gain consistency.

The new site does not suffer from this, as all counts come from the search service which is the accurate view.

Closing as won't fix, as we are now days from releasing the new site...
