Issue 13438

On country page add "in viewable area" link for maps

Reporter: thirsch
Assignee: mdoering
Type: Bug
Summary: On country page add "in viewable area" link for maps
Description: A suggestion for future development of country page. At present the view of the map 'Data about' e.g. does not enable direct exploring of what the density squares actually consist of in terms of data - unless I have missed something. Of course you can do this exploration using the locality filters from the occurrence page - but a casual user arriving at the country page would not necessarily know that. Would it be possible to include an 'in viewable area' search link direct from the country page so you could zoom in to see the records for a particular area? Or else some clear cross-walk over to the occurrence search to enable this kind of exploring?

Comment: Good idea, shouldn't be too hard

Comment: The current version has a text link that takes you to occurrence search with the country filled in. Is that sufficient []?

No, the idea is to be able to explore data directly from zoomed-in map on the country page. Use case: I am a user from Mexico, arrive at the country page and want to see what records are in my neighbourhood - I zoom into the map from the country page but currently have no way to know what the dots in my local park represent.

This is a repeat (or rather a prequel) of
