Should only the browser locale be shown? For vernacular names we also show all languages so far. I think this is good as you often want to see the names in various languages - we should make sure to show the browser locale at the top though.

If we show only the description of the browser locale - would you be able to see the descriptions in another language without changing your browsers settings? Would we show none, english or a random language in case there aint no description in the browser locale?

Comment: Good point on common names.  For vernaculars showing others is not so off-putting, but the description I would suggest showing non or default to english

Comment: Agree. Should there be a way to see them all if one really wants to? Or at least an indication that there are descriptions in other languages available too? Maybe a count (per type) by language?

Comment: Ideally yes, although be aware that there is still possibility this content gets pulled all together (not vernaculars as they serve a specific purpose to aid discovery of other things, such as occurrences).  Trying to mash up species profiles for content not actually published through GBIF might be deemed out of scope and "more the job of others" e.g. EOL

Im not very happy with the current UI to be honest. For longer descriptions it is just too much.
Wouldn't it be much better to only show one description at a time, load them potentially via ajax and always show the list of languages and description types instead? As soon as you follow to another description the previous is closed

I only svn up'ed the portal - please reference the commit when closing issues in future so others can be sure they are deploying the correct stuff
