Ok, the problem is basically the opacity and the text-shadow filter we had applied.
I'll review all the CSS to fix this.

Comment: After getting latest changes I can confirm that it looks much better on IE8, so that it's now usable. But in general it still doesn't look good on Windows - IE8, IE10 and FF23 all look sort of 'thin' and not smooth. Compared to anything on OSX it looks kinda bad. Is this the best we can get with this font on Windows?

Comment: I've added 3 images showing the Windows font problem. 11.28.23 is IE8 on XP, 11.28.50 is FF23 on XP and 11.29.11 is Chrome on OS X, and 11.31.33 is IE10 on Win8. All the windows versions look sort of crappy.

could it simply be the anti aliasing of OSX being superb and windows XP is just bad at rendering any fonts? According to XP does not do any antialiasing at all, so I would not care too much about XP. Windows 7 should look good though.

Comment: here's a native pc screen from me - menu still looks bad. Note the F in GBIF. Could it be you have the font installed on your test pc Javier, so that makes it all work?
