Description: Currently, all personal names for contacts are only giving the name components, omitting academic (or other) titles. We received a request to show those titles, which are contained in the IMS database.

As this should be handled consistently across the site, it requires a general decision whether or not academic titles should be displayed with names on the site.]]>

The practice until now has been not to expose academic titles, for two good reasons: 1. We do not have this information in all cases from the IMS, so it would be inconsistent, and 2. Academic titles have different connotations in different cultures so it is good practice not to use them as a general prefix - this is the preferred style in GBIF news stories, in common with many current style guides.

So I see no reason to change current practice for the new portal, and these reasons can be communicated where there are specific queries.

Comment: Taking Tim's response as definitive No in answer to issue title.
