The best feature of gbif so far was that it allowed to enter a scientific name, and one click later, a map occured showing the distribution of the taxon. If I was interested in the record, it was as simple as clicking on it on the map and the collection data would appear.

Now I have to hit many more buttons - and then I don't get a map, but endless lists of records without a button to have it on a map. Certainly the new page is more elegant - but for me, it's useless!

Sad there is no email to respond to, but in the new portal you can also search for a name, get the map of the taxons distribution and one click away the list of the underlying occurrence records. There is not a single additional click you need to do

1) search: http://uat.gbif.org/species/search?q=Puma+concolor&dataset_key=d7dddbf4-2cf0-4f39-9b2a-bb099caae36c
2) pick the species from the search list you are interested in: http://uat.gbif.org/species/2435099
3) follow All 4,049 or just the viewable area links to get the list of occurrences: http://uat.gbif.org/occurrence/search?taxon_key=2435099&BOUNDING_BOX=90%2C-180%2C-90%2C180

We need to get the homepage search done... Homepage > pick the species > the map is on there.

I suspect it could be R. Page

Closing since no email to reply to.

From homepage, one can enter species name, click on species link and view the map. This is a richer, more detailed map than the current portal. One can then click to view the records within the viewable area.

The new portal is no more complicated than the live one, and actually far richer.

I don't believe there is work that can be done here, but if we can find out who it was, more information would help.
