Issue 14401

Node name for CETAF

14401
Reporter: feedback bot
Type: Task
Summary: Node name for CETAF
Priority: Major

Description: CETAF has appointed a Node manager and I have added Jörg Holetschek in the IMS. I refreshed the connection between the IMS and the portal, and Jörg turns up correctly as the new Node manager.
However, CETAF has also requested that BioCASE is listed as the node for CETAF. The information was changed in the IMS but the changes do not appear on the portal. Is it due to a time lag or do we need to change something in the Registry?
Best,
Anne Mette]]>

Comment: [~anmnielsen] what exactly do you mean by "BioCASE is listed as the node for CETAF" ? CETAF is a node already, what relationship do you expect it to have with BioCASE (and what is BioCASE in the registry other than a technical standard for "endpoints"?)

Sorry for not being clear. CETAF requested that we change the node name to BioCASE.

Ah! This needs to be manually changed in the registry too then.
The following fields of a Node do not come from the IMS, but are managed redundantly also in the registry database and take priority. So whenever these change please let [~jlegind@gbif.org] know so he can apply updates (or maybe tell you how to do it yourself?)

 title
 type
 participation_status

Hi Markus,
If I go to the list of Other Associate Participants on http://www.gbif.org/participation/list#other I can see that CETAF is now listed under the Participant name 'Biocase'. This was not the intention. The Participant should still be called 'Consortium of European Taxonomic Facilities' or short version 'CETAF' but when you look at the information about the Node, the node should be listed as 'BioCASE'. It is similar to Participant 'Chinese Taipei' having a node called 'Taiwan Biodiversity Information Facility'.

Comment: I see. Im sorry to say that this is impossible right now. We do not have participant information in the registry or portal. Node and participants are the same right now and we only do a nasty manual hack for the sake of pleasing china and taiwan. See PF-1130 for the specific issue.

Comment: Please change it back to CETAF then.

Sorry guys. I just had a conversation with Tim Hirsch and he requests that you do the special hack for CETAF as well. This would mean that they will be listed as Participant 'CETAF' but when you look at the CETAF page http://www.gbif.org/node/d8bbf693-a180-4995-94fe-6130795dcf2f the Node name should be BioCASE.
We also have to consider what to do in the future if more cases like this come up.

Comment: This should really be solved properly, see issue PF-1130. [~trobertson@gbif.org] I am out all day tomorrow (Varnish User Group), but before spending time on adding yet another hack should we not try to add a participant title to the Node class and redeploy the registry-ws on monday?

Comment: I agree that a proper fix of the problem is preferable. What kind of timeline are we looking at?

Comment: The change itself should not be dramatic and can be done in half a day most. [~trobertson@gbif.org], do we have scheduled a next production deploy yet or should we simply swap the registry and portal once done? Its an API change after all, but just adding a new field

API, registry and portal changes committed to use the participantTitle properly

[~anmnielsen] can you please update the IMS so that the node title for CETAF becomes BioCASE while the participant title stays?
You can see the latest exposed version here which uses CETAF for both the node and the participant:

[~anmnielsen], the node title and participantTitle both still yield CETAF. See both:

Is this intended?

Comment: @Markus it looks like IMS has the titles set correctly, and after a sync with mysql it also has the names set correctly (in db gbif_IMS). Seems this problem is on our side. Can you please check the sql that builds the response?
