Description: I tried the new portal 8 days ago for the first time. I just created a account from this email, and did a sample search and download. Everything worked perfectly.

Today I tried to do a new search and download, but I had forgot my password so I introduced my email to reset it.

I keep the same email and user name, but I cannot see the link or query parameters for the the download I had made last week. Should it be there?
If the answer is yes, then this is a bug.

If the answer is no, then this is a feature request:

I think it might be common that many people repeat the same search filters in the future (if they want to be permanently aware of new records of certain taxa or geographical area).

Wouldn't it be useful that user accounts can keep links to favorite searches?
Or even the possibility of having a permanent link to an updated version of the same search.

I mean: that if I reuse the same link within a week, it will return me the updated records: so the zip download is updated on a weekly basis (or whatever frequency the server can support), but its url is permanent.
I suppose there should be a limit, so perhaps each user could have just a limited number of these "favorite download links"

Thanks

Comment: This should work, so its a bug. Also you will see that you can rerun your old searches with a single click. Just the incremental diffs are not implemented, but how about we add another link that adds a modifiedSince last query created filter to the list of previous downloads?

Comment: I have emailed the reporter David following up on the issue. Personally, I couldn't reproduce it but I am an admin user of course.

Hi, just to confirm what I said.

I am using the same email address and username, but my current download history does not show the file mentioned in this message I received last week.:

Hi [~mdoering@gbif.org]

I didn't fully understand the behaviour of that new link adding "modifiedSince last query created":

Let's say I searched for occurrences of 5 species in a certain country.

So I would have 2 permanent links available?
1- The normal one (contains records zipped at the time of request)
2- The "new records" link (what does it actually contain?)

Let's say I have an script which downloads the 2nd link once a week.
Would it contain only new records, or would it contain also the records present in the 1st link (or in previous downloads of the 2nd link)?

I mean, could I just ADD those records to my personal database weekly?
Or should I have to take care of repited/updated records?

Comment: The downloads reported here were created using the dev environment not the production environment, all the downloads in the dev environments are transient, can disappear at any time.

OK. So it is normal behaviour.

What I don't know is how to change that environment.
Does it depend on the page logged in from, or somthing alike?

Thanks

www.gbif.org is the production environment
portaldev.gbif.org is the development environment

Well ... AGAIN

As reported in my inital message, I "forgot" my password.

I was pretty sure I had not forgotten it since I use an application to store passwords in my phone.
But now I receive the same "wrong password" message when I try to login.

So, I would need to recreate my account.
And I see the disclaimer saying "Any user accounts created may be deleted; users might need to recreate their accounts in the future".

I think this is what happened to me the first time.

So what happens in this case? What should I do to avoid my download history being deleted because my account is deleted?

Or is it just the password what you delete, and not the account?

My previous comment was about download history being lost due to password deletion.

This comment is about the other questions in the title: permanent links for favorite searches.

Markus commented the possibility of adding a "modified since last query" link.
But later the issue status was changed to "closed".

So, will this this link to "download only new records" be added, or not?
If added, could it be based on DateLastModified values reported for each individual record?
Otherwise, using dataset modification date seems useless to me to detect new single records, as explained here:

http://dev.gbif.org/issues/browse/PF-1389

Thanks,
David

[~sant] if you forgot your password, you can always use the reset password feature: http://www.gbif.org/user/password There is no need to recreate your account. Your account isn't deleted, and therefore your download history won't be deleted.

It's up to you to create a new occurrence search, adding a date last modified filter, each time with a new date in order to pull only those records that have changed since that particular date. This is not something that will be done automatically for you. Thanks for opening PF-1389 to address problems and improvements with this filter.
