Safari and/or Apple specific. :-s Can't reproduce on FF, IE, Opera, Chrome or Konqueror (Windows/Fedora Linux)
Also please check your text zoom level (e.g. in Windows/Linux CTRL-0 in browser window will reset the text size).

Comment: Chrome's rendering engine's a fork of webkit. Which can mean it's webkit specific on OSX; Let's see how I can get access to a modern OSX...

The problem is very specific to webkit based browsers running on OSX (e.g. FF on OSX renders correctly) and it's not about font size but about line-height. I'm afraid we're missing proper reset css for Apple right now; probably it got lost on one of those oh so many CSS refactorings...
I've added a patch line-height which seems to work at least for the moment. [~mdoering@gbif.org] [~omeyn@gbif.org], can you please check?
