Description: The dates shown under the "Latest datasets published do not seem to reflect what the dataset pages show.
While investigating this, please ensure also that dataset page dates are clear and obvious.  E.g. Date first published, date last updated for example might make best sense?

Dates are rather difficult. As a user the date I am most interested in would be the one when the data has changed. Whether that is the indexed data or source data is already debatable. The date indexed is very interesting for continously changing sources. But for sources which only get updated yearly for example I dont wanna see a more recent date just because the exact same data was indexed again.

A simple metadata change of the dataset could be another interesting aspect, but not as much as the data one above.

The created timestamp we have covers both. The metadata got created and the data got first indexed (more or less). But the modified date is just about the metadata. The EML also has a pubDate timestamp, which is then the source data was actually published.

Maybe we also need some dataLastChanged timestamp on Dataset?

For the latest dataset page I would expect the created date probably, but dataLastChanged would also make sense. Modified not so much - or does it?
