Description: For the geological terms to become properly searchable we need to interpret the stratigraphic classification similar to a names taxonomy. As we will get lots of varying input we need to do some normalization to support any kind of meaningful search.
Prominent classifications are:
* Geological times on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geologic_time_scale
* GSA: http://www.geosociety.org/science/timescale/
Falk Glöckner from the MfN recommended the following sources:
In the links you provided it seems that there is only the geo-/chronostratigraphic classification. The geologic time intervals from the GSA is also accessible through a web- service: http://paleobiodb.org/data1.1/
I’m not sure if there are sources for all the other stratigraphic classifications, but here is additional information: http://www.stratigraphy.org/index.php/ics-stratigraphicguide
Another useful source for terms might be http://fossilworks.org/cgi-bin/bridge.pl?a=searchScale&continent=all
