we still need to figure out a way of including links to audio
files. These can't be uploaded onto the drupal library as there's a 2MB
limit on file size. We could embed a code but the only supported providers
at the moment are youtube and vimeo.

The file size restriction on audio—and, in fact, any file—is a simple configuration limit in Drupal. If we expect to host our own audio files, the best fix would simply be to raise the limit (and make sure that the audio file types we’re working with are also expressly allowed).
