first few records inspected have wrong coordinates and we warn people:

Lots of records in the north atalantic from the Continuous Plankton Recorder database report the species "Paralia sulcata"
http://data.gbif.org/occurrences/12899486/

GBIF classification:
Kingdom: PlantaeClass: BacillariophycaeOrder: CentralesFamily: MelosiraceaeGenus: ParaliaSpecies: Paralia sulcata

Source classification
Kingdom: PLANTAE
Class: BACILLARIOPHYCAE
Order: CENTRALES
Family: MELOSIRACEAE
Genus: Paralia
Species: sulcata

This seems to be correct, also the nub entry is correct. No idea why these records show up on the map:

Looking at all names included in the nub Ebenaceae family there is the genus Paralia appearing, but no species. Plus a similar genus Paralea.

A simple nub lookup goes right though: http://cache.gbif.org/ws-nub/nub?name=Paralia%20sulcata

When you add all of the classification given though, the lookup links it to the (erroneous?) Ebenaceae genus Paralia:
http://cache.gbif.org/ws-nub/nub?name=Paralia%20sulcata&family=MELOSIRACEAE&order=CENTRALES&class=BACILLARIOPHYCAE&kingdom=plantae

This is likely to be because the classification is so different to the CoL one, which uses
Kingdom	Chromista
Phylum	Ochrophyta
Class	Coscinodiscophyceae
Order	Paraliales
Family	Paraliaceae
Genus	Paralia

The wrongly matched homonym genus Paralia comes from IRMNG:
http://ecat-dev.gbif.org/usage/100488513

A better mapping of higher taxa in our synonym dictionaries should solve this issue!

for comparsion, here is the classification of the wrongly matched genus:

Kingdom	Plantae +
Phylum	Magnoliophyta -
Class	Magnoliopsida -
Order	Ebenales -
Family	Ebenaceae -
Genus	Paralia +

with synonym mappings for the query:
http://rs.gbif.org/dictionaries/synonyms/

BACILLARIOPHYCEAE	Bacillariophyta
CENTRALES nothing
MELOSIRACEAE nothing

A straight binomial match should rate much higher to avoid the issue

increased rating of straight binomial matches and reduced penalty for mismatching kingdom Chromista cause its often treated differently.
Works on boma now: http://boma.gbif.org:8080/ws-nub/nub?name=Paralia%20sulcata&family=MELOSIRACEAE&order=CENTRALES&class=BACILLARIOPHYCAE&kingdom=plantae
