Issue 17270

UUIDs supplied by OZCAM are ignored by GBIF

17270
Reporter: rdmpage
Type: Bug
Summary: UUIDs supplied by OZCAM are ignored by GBIF
Description: As noted in a blog post http://iphylo.blogspot.co.uk/2015/02/more-examples-of-data-duplication-and.html OZCAM provides UUIDs for specimens which can also be used to link to the original record in OZCAM, but these are ignored when GBIF parses the Darwin Core dump. For example, the occurrence http://www.gbif.org/occurrence/774916561 corresponds to http://ozcam.ala.org.au/occurrence/223d1549-1322-419e-8af4-649a4b145064, and the UUID 223d1549-1322-419e-8af4-649a4b145064 is in the first column in the DWcA file. I'm also assuming that OZCAM uses the UUID to uniquely identify the record, in which case GBIF could use the UUID to help keep the GBIF occurrence id stable. By not including the UUID GBIF is missing a chance to provide a link to OZCAM, which can be handy if trying to debug data, such as the duplication of bat records due to OZCAM treating multiple tissue samples from the same individual bat as different occurrences.
