Issue 17672

Amphioctopus species missing accepted genus in backbone

17672
Reporter: mdoering
Type: Bug
Summary: Amphioctopus species missing accepted genus in backbone
Description: The accepted species Amphioctopus fangsiao http://www.gbif.org/species/5856038 has as a parent the genus Octopus. That should not be possible in the backbone and the genus Amphioctopus should be the parent instead. As that genus is considered a synonym in the backbone the species should also not be accepted http://www.gbif.org/species/4304632

We do not want to create recombinations and place the species in a different genus ourselves.
BUT we'd like to prefer name usages that indeed treat this species as a synonym regardless if a more trusted source thinks this is an accepted taxon.

And the parent should never be the synonym, instead having the accepted genus Octopus was correct

In the case of accepted infraspecific names with a species synonym as the parent we should convert the infraspecies to a synonym.

For example Negundo aceroides subsp. aceroides should become a synonym of Acer negundo subsp. negundo if the species Negundo aceroides Torr. was already considered a synonym of Acer negundo subsp. negundo by an earlier source
