Description: In the featured resources list, an arrow normally gives direct access to the resource without having to go to the resource details page. In the current selection of resources many of them do not have that arrow.

Comment: KC: "Google Analytics suggests that the arrows get less than 0.1% of the clicks for visitors to the page. That would make it seem like an extremely low priority issue, outside of wanting to create a consistent user experience."

Comment: If it happened only after the update yesterday, then it's something to fix. That way I am sure that part of the code is functioning as it should. I'll have a quick check and decide whether to further dig into it.

Comment: By design only 'Tools' will have such an icon to link to external resource if an URL is provided. Since the current sorting doesn't float any tools to the top 8 featured items, we see no has the link icon, for the moment.

I am sorry but I think that is not a correct assessment of the problem. Documents hosted in drupal have the link, but not the presentations or the external links, for example.

Besides, I hope that closing the issue does not mean that we won't address it later. The fact that we have designed the system in a certain way is not a satisfactory solution to the issue. There's no indication in the interface on which resources will have the links and which won't. We should seek an intuitive interface, without inconsistencies.

Comment: I agree with Alberto that this should be considered again in the review of gbif.org. As Kyle said, it does not appear to be a high priority issue, considering the usage. Nevertheless, it is an inconsistency that makes for a confusing user experience, and should at least be in the list of things to consider when reworking the site.

Comment: Are we talking about the 'direct download' icon, which is the downward arrow with a baseline, or the 'go to external resource' icon, which is an arrow pointing out of a square, here?

Please, re-read the issue description: "In the featured resources list"...

Added a screenshot for further clarification.

Comment: Well [~atalavan], I have read that many times and know exactly which page you're talking about, but I still need to know what icon you're expecting, in order to explain how it works with current specification, content-wise what field should have value, and come back to you with better explanation. And then I can evaluate the whether it makes sense just improve/fix and ship it.

I decided to go finish this task because it's relevant to underlining i18n handling that needs to be considered in the current main task.
