Description: When trying to discover basionyms by comparing the epithets of species found within one family we use exact epithets. Ideally the names grouped by epithet should be stemmed epithets that are gender neutral as the nomenclatural codes require an epithet to change and use the correct gender determined by the genus.

For example one can see in the synonym of Lactuca aurea that the homotypical group around sonchifolium Vis. & Pančić contains also the femaile epithet sonchifolia:

An example from our nub spotted by Donald:

Stenoptilia celidota (Meyrick, 1885) [SPECIES]
Stenoptilia celidotus Meyrick, 1885 [SPECIES]

The current name is actually Platyptilia celidotus, but CoL does not have it.
