Description: To reinforce the full implementation of DOIs on GBIF.org and support our upcoming outreach campaign to journal publishers on data citation, can we make two small adjustments to the current 'default citation' for datasets?
Requested adjustment is simple and straightforward. Current model appears to be:
[Dataset title], [yyyy-mm-dd].
Accessed via [GBIF.org URL] on [yyyy-mm-dd].
Revised citation would be:
[Dataset title]. [DOI]
Accessed via [GBIF.org URL] on [yyyy-mm-dd].
This approach serves to promote the persistent DOI for the dataset, whether it resolves to GBIF.org or elsewhere, and then accurately records the source location and date.

Note that this would also be an excellent place to expose the dataset versioning introduced in the IPT recently (at least as and where publishers make use of that feature).
In the above example, the publisher-supplied citation references 'v393.54', so a versioned citation might read:
Instituto de Pesquisas Jardim Botanico do Rio de Janeiro: Brazilian Flora Checklist - Lista de Espécies da Flora do Brasil, v393.54. doi:10.15468/1mtkaw

Comment: Version info is only a recommendation/suggestion. It's clearly IPT-dependent at this stage, and, from speaking with [~kbraak], we might need more work prior to honouring it.
