Description: In cases like Nymphalis io, Cynthia cardui and Aglais urticae, GBIF indicates authorship to be Linnaeus, 1758 but it should really be (Linnaeus, 1758). This appears to be a general problem with Lepindex, the source used by Catalogue of Life. Lepindex identifies the basionym correctly as Papilio io, Papilio cardui and Papilio urticae, but does not add the parentheses to the authorship string.

In some cases we have the correct information about the basionym (the information is not in Catalogue of Life it seems, even though the information is in Lepindex). In those cases we could correct the authorship string by adding the parentheses when appropriate. Especially for old authorships like Linneaus or others from before 1900?]]>
